Emmanuelle Dion

- AMBASSADOR FOR CONTEMPORARY LUTHIERS -

VOCATION

M I S S I O N

My aim is to present to musicians outstanding instruments, rigorously selected for their qualities of tone and aesthetics, as well as to promote the work of talented contemporary luthiers.

My travels, all around France and abroad (conservatories, orchestras and all kind of musical events) make it possible to publicise the work of these singular craftspeople, while letting them concentrate on their own creations.

The world of music is synonymous with encounters between passionate people. As an ambassador, I can play a role at the heart of the relationship between luthiers and musicians and facilitate their mutual understanding.

A B O U T

Emmanuele Dion Luthière

I stumbled into the world of violin-making by mistake – quite literally!

Going to my first violin lesson, I pushed open the wrong door and found myself inside a small, dark, quaint workshop where some old instruments were hanging, waiting for a new lease on life. I knew instantly that I had found my own path.

Driven by an early and strong motivation l left my home country (Québec, Canada) at age seventeen to enter the National School of Violinmaking in Mirecourt, France, where I obtained in 2010 my « Diplôme des Métiers D'Art ».

After some time in the workshops of Laurent Lopez in Madrid and John Dilworth in London, where I was trained in repair and restoration, Bogidar Vermand and I created in 2013 the “Vermand-Luthiers” workshop in Caromb, a delightful village in Provence at the foot of the Mont Ventoux.

As a result of our teamwork - Bogidar with his magical hands and yours truly at the helm – our workshop quickly earned some fame for its production of new instruments. After six years I decided to broaden my spectrum of activities by proposing to other contemporary luthiers to help promote their work.

My background as a violin-maker allows me today to guarantee the quality of the presented instruments and to discuss fine-tuning issues directly with musicians.

Simultaneously, I continue my repair and restoration activities at the bench.
